Treatment for AD(H)D

by

Traditional treatments of AD(H)D usually involves the use of psychostimulants. One of the drawbacks of this is that many of the medications fail to have long -lasting improvements and medication may be required to be taken indefinitely. In addition, there may be side effects ranging from mild and short term such as decreased appetite, anxiety, headaches among others to longer term possible effects such as the development or increase in tics.

Neurofeedback has been deemed an effective treatment for AD(H)D and may be the treatment of choice in cases where medication is ineffective, only partially effective, has unacceptable side effects, or where compliance with taking medication is low.

Neurofeedback can improve attention, impulse control, speed of information processing and consistency of attention, a decline in internalising and externalising psychopathology.
